Abstract

This study aimed to develop a methodology to identify an optimal mixture of fertilizers capable to help producers in the management of fertigation. We developed a mathematical optimization model that calculates the best combination of fertilizers to obtain the desired nutrient solution for different crops, taking into account the minimal cost. To assist the user of this model, a mobile application was developed being a tool of decision-making for farmers and agriculture technicians in situ. Nonlinear Conjugate Gradient Method was chosen to the resolution of the optimization problem proposed in this work, as it is what fits better with our features. This method was a particular case of the Conjugate Gradient Method, proposed for non-problem solving and/or minimization of convex functions. The mathematical model proposed complied with the restrictions recommended in fertigation for the calculation of the amount of fertilizer at a low cost; making it more complete and more efficient and a powerful tool. Thus, the proposed methodology, as well as the mobile application, developed in this research is an important, user-friendly and affordable tool to assist in proper fertigation management.
