LOSSES AND IMPURITIES AT SUGAR CANE MECHANIZED HARVEST USING DIFFERENT ADJUSTMENT SETTINGS

ABSTRACT: Mechanized harvesting of sugarcane has shown deficiencies in raw material quality related to the conditions found in the sugarcane fields and to the lack of appropriate regulation of harvesters. The amount of impurities on the wagon and losses can be minimized with investments in training for the operators. This study aimed to evaluate the sugarcane mechanized harvesting quality regarding ground speed changes, primary extractor rotation and different yield. Two ground speeds, one a standard speed and the other a maximum speed achieved during the harvest, were chosen as treatments. Three different primary extractor rotations were used: low, intermediate, and high. The experiment was conducted in two areas, one with lower yeild and the other with higher. Visible losses, of vegetal and mineral content in the raw material harvested were measured. The losses of raw materials were influenced by increasing the ground speed,  also, were smaller in higher yield areas than in lower yield areas, when analyzed as a percentage. The increase in ground speed caused an increase in soil content and vegetal impurities. It was observed that the vegetal impurities extraction efficiency was better in the high yield area than in the lower yield area.

KEYWORDS: Harvester, raw material, ground speed, extractor fan speed.
