Rural Biomass Residual From Different Agricultural Activities In Brazil

ABSTRACT: The agricultural activities have intensified a lot in recent years as a result of an increase in the world population. The Parana 3 Basin besides including the largest hydroelectric plant in production of electric power also covers an extensive area of farming and cattle raising. The waste from this production is nowadays being used as organic fertilizer by the local landowners. A although this material contains a high energy potential, if directly placed on the ground, it can bring several problems, such as the eutrophication of rivers and lakes because of its biomass decomposition. Considering these environmental impacts, there is a big challenge in ensuring the local population life quality. With this aim, we have demonstrated in this article a set of definitions and characteristics of Parana 3 Basin with the purpose of developing concepts and solutions related to the waste and the biogas that is currently being dissipated in the rural economy. In addition, we showed the possibility of rural environmental sanitation introduction through the use of the biomass energy, due to a lack of understanding that the biomass residue can be used as a source of thermal, electric and vehicular power and also applied as a bio fertilizer.

KEYWORDS: Farming and cattle raising, biomass and rural environmental sanitation.
}, number={1}, journal={ENERGIA NA AGRICULTURA}, author={Frigo, Elisandro Pires and Alves, Helton José and Frigo, Michelle Sato and Araújo, Carlos Henrique Coimbra and Bastos, Rafaela koglin}, year={2015}, month={abr.}, pages={20–26} }
