1 RESUMEN

EFFECT OF TWO IRRIGATION SYSTEMS ON  BEAN (Phaseolus vulgaris L) UNDER  CONDITIONS OF THE  VALLE DE QUÍBOR, VENEZUELA

2 ABSTRACT

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of two irrigation systems (microgroove and drip) on the vegetative and reproductive growth of beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L) under conditions of the Quibor Valley, Lara state, Venezuela.  The experiment was carried out at the “Cerro Pelón”  Experimental Station, INIA – Lara.  Each plot was 560 m2  and a  split-plot design was used. The following parameters were evaluated: plant height, stem diameter, number of buds and flowers, pod number and length, fresh and dry weight of plants, pod and seed weight, yield and water use efficiency.  Statistically significant differences were found for plant height, stem diameter, number of buds, number and length of pods.  Better  vegetative development was observed in plants under drip irrigation. However,  higher yield was observed in plants under microgroove irrigation system. The drip irrigation system was more efficient concerning water use (0.270 kg m-3) than  the microgroove irrigation system (0.201 kg m-3).

Keywords: water use efficiency, microgroove, drip, irrigation.
