1 RESUMO

2 ABSTRACT

The emergence of disease is the main cause of the need for expansion of cocoa plantations in Brazil and immediately to the semi-arid. As a deciduous tree, leaves the deposited soil, water loss by evaporation is minimized by making the main component of sweat water demand of the culture. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of natural thermal differences (NTD) to estimate the sap flow Granier method’s in the culture of cocoa grown in full sun. The study was conducted in a semiarid region in Nova Conquista Farm, in Nova Redenção - BA. Were used four seminal cocoa trees CCN51 and two clones. Was measured by the NTD for a period of 50 days and there was a correlation analysis of data. The sap flow was measured in January 2012 and was related to the mean density sap flow from trees with and without thermal compensation differences. According to the results we can conclude that for an accurate estimation of sap flow by Granier method in the cocoa cultivation is essential for the correction of natural thermal gradients present in the stem and can be used to estimate air temperature of NTD. A straight subtraction of the values measured by a sensor installed in unheated another tree, branch or even the same trunk that registered with the heated probe can lead to significant errors in estimating the sap flow.
